Before Obama there was Nkrumah! President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana was a man who was respected by all the leaders of the world during his time, with a welcoming seat at their table, where he was called upon to help resolve global conflicts amongst nations, to bring peace amongst enemies & to stand in leadership as the example for other nations to follow, similar to the way President Obama’s leadership is being looked to & heralded throughout the world. There has never been an African president so highly regarded & respected by world leaders as Dr. Nkrumah until Nelson Mandela- 37 years after Dr. Nkrumah became the very first Black President. Dr. Nkrumah paved the way for many who came after him locally/globally & it is a sad day in the history of Ghana when his birthday is still not a national holiday & his achievements are not heralded & celebrated in Ghana’s education system or culture outside of designated monuments & buildings. I am currently reading two books to better understand Ghana’s past high esteem, fall from grace & the times we are in now –“Handbook of Revolutionary Warfare” by Kwame Nkrumah & “Ghana Two Years of Transformation:1982-83” published by Information Services Department , Accra , Ghana. The latter looks at Ghana the first 2 years after the 1981 revolution headed by Flt.-Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, whose party & former VP, Atta Mills is currently in power as the ruling majority party & the president of Ghana. The “Handbook of Revolutionary Warfare” by Kwame Nkrumah was written in 1968 in Conakry, Guinea where Nkrumah was exiled to & became Co-president of with Sekou Toure after the coup d’état orchestrated & aided by the American CIA, while he was in Hanoi trying to work on a resolution to the Vietnam war in 1966. Much of this history is completely unknown to the average Ghanaian & even some of the so called educated ones. Dr. Nkrumah & an independent Black Star Nation was truly the example that many colonizers & capitalists in the world were afraid of & did not want to see spread throughout the continent of Africa in the formation of what would have been a powerhouse continent of the United States of Africa. This was Africa’s dream deferred which President Obama says he would like to see fulfilled for Africa by Africans, but at what cost & is the rest of the world let alone Africans truly ready to fulfill Nkrumah’s dream? If & when a nation can not even pay homage & honor the greatness of its past, how can they possibly fulfill the greatness in their potential for the future? When Ghana as a democratic governed nation along with the everyday Ghanaian can know, acknowledge, honor & celebrate the greatness of its past then we can truly fulfill & exclaim the mantra of Forward Ever, Backward Never!

I encourage & urge Ghana/Ghanaians to make September 21st a national holiday in honor of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah & in honor of what a great Black Star Nation represents! A day of national & public voluntary service & celebration of our Forward Movements as a Nation!global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-28892416862365353962009-08-22T09:48:00.000-07:002009-08-22T10:10:53.816-07:00The Ghana Chronicles 09-Beginning the Journey from JFK 2 Accra

Let’s just say the day didn’t start off on a good foot because I had not slept at all the night before because I was overwhelmed with packing. Of course family members have to overload my luggage with stuff to give everyone back home in Ghana –many of which they can easily get in Ghana but for some reason bringing it from the US gives it more cachet or makes it somehow better. Figuring out how to pack it all without having to pay close to $300 for excess baggage, which Deltas rips off their customers for since they are the only airline with such exorbitant fees for going over 50 pounds, was no easy task. My cousin’s wonderful husband was gracious enough to drive me to the airport & surprisingly everything went smoothly at the airport, so I could just relax & await the flight.

So the journey has begun once again, back to my mama’s land, the motherland, the Black Star Nation, Ghana! This time a little wiser, a little more learned about the so called “Ghanaian mentality” & a lot more tolerant while building on the precise beautiful art of patience. In this land everyone is at their own pace with an extreme abundance of pride or “twae”, but after all what do you expect from the Black Star Nation who showed herself to be the leader of Africa 52 years ago in her independence & the call for all her brothers & sisters to join her revolutionary evolution for freedom & independence Now - for & by Africans! 52 years later the “Nkrumah like” first of Barack Obama comes to remind the world once again that Ghana/Ghanaians are the model he & the rest of the world wants to see for Africa, so you best believe that the pride is high, but we’re moving on- that is as an elder Ghanaian said to me –if we can get past some of the ignorance in behavior & thought process.

It’s happening as I write this. I am on my way to Accra on Delta, one of the worst airlines in terms of customer service, but unfortunately it’s the only airline that flies direct to Ghana from New York. Sitting next to me is a Ghanaian who did his masters & phd in the USA & decided he wanted to go back to Ghana to build on the blueprint of excellence in education, which Nkrumah had started, by building a private international school in Kumasi where excellence is not only expected from the students, but from the faculty & the infrastructure where they gather, eat, learn & excel, thru a focus on the sciences. Within a 10 year period of conceiving this idea & bringing it to fruition, Dr. Yeboah now has one of the best primary/secondary schools in Kumasi that is beautifully done to rival any day/boarding school in Ghana & abroad. I didn’t have my own private/self-contained bathroom in my room at the boarding school of the elite in the US that I was privileged enough to have gained a scholarship for, but in Today’s Ghana it’s part of the staple –Chale mek u no try- because we are coming up & the movement is being led by those of us who have been educated, lived & travelled abroad; fed up with the so called American Europe dream as we watch foreigners/foreign investors live their dreams in our homeland without much benefit to the average everyday Ghanaian. Many ex-pat Ghanaians & now even their children born & raised abroad have chosen to come back to give back to the nation that gave us our power & more vim to be able to make it anywhere with excellence as we keep the black star shining & rising-Nkrumah’s exact road & blueprint in full effect! Dr. Yeboah is on the plane with about 20 or so children from his school, who as little Pricilla AKA Serwaa ,with her innate sense of politeness that is second to none in Ghana & the sweetest of voices tells me, they were on a sponsored tour to Chicago & New York- one of the international/global educational tools that is incorporated in the curriculum of the school. Pricilla proceeds to tell me how she wanted to tell the flight attendant “Delta knows they are going to Ghana why don’t you serve us some jalof rice or something”. I laugh & shake my head knowing just how right this young lady is & recognizing that she is a powerhouse in the best ways possible & will one day perhaps be heralded amongst other great intelligent females who represent the best in country, womanhood & firsts such as Hilary Clinton, Sonia Sotomayor, Michelle Obama & Yaa Asantwaa . I am filled with so much joy & hope for Today’s Ghana as I watch the founder of the school, teachers & students interact in a way that is more family than pupils & as the African-American flight attendant sits next to the founder of the school & me hoping we can help her find a good school for a young 16 year old Ghanaian boy who she has taken to & is determined to help in Ghana. She tells us the story of how she met him at the art center on her travels to Ghana & he had confided in her his dream of becoming a doctor, even though his parents are pushing him to be a footballer because they believe he will make more money quickly so he can take care of them.

This woman has no known blood relation to this young man except for the fact that she sees Ghana as home as an African-American & has become the embodiment of the Ghanaian proverb “It takes a village to raise a child” by just choosing to stand up to do her part in being the change she would like to see in the world. She has dedicated herself to helping this young man live his dream of becoming a doctor & has decided to call on her village of friends to help out financially or with just something as simple as information to make sure he is in the right environment for learning, so that he becomes someone whose dream is realized instead of another one of many whose dreams are deferred because of lack of funding, access or that one person it takes to believe in a young person’s dream, so they can really go for it & believe that it is possible! Today’s Ghana is about Change & Forward Ever & I am delighted to have the privilege to be on this journey with a resurrected Black Star vim to build on this blueprint!
global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-2670731525115335392008-12-30T01:04:00.000-08:002008-12-30T02:12:12.677-08:0050 PLUS YEARS AFTER INDEPENDENCE: Ghana elects a new president as Coup declared in Guinea- Will a Forward United Africa ever come? Nkrumah/ToureI read this blog When will Africa Think? What struck me the most was the title & the word "think". If we only took a moment to actually think things thru before speaking & reacting? If we only took a moment to "think" of the benefits & consequences- long term-? A trait that people actually had the audacity to be upset with President Elect Obama for having. He takes too much time to think every action, question & answer thru - Hmmm-there's something wrong with a thinker?! I think history has shown the world many times over that being to quick on the draw can have dire consequences!

We need a new era of "Thinkers" , who lead great nations all over the world, especially in Africa. We fail to know about, learn about, remember & pass on our history as nations & as a continent! We must pass on our past glories as much as international history books & media focus on our failures. If we only see ourselves thru our failures how can we find hope in a promise of a change & a glory that we have never known? As Ghana decides on a new president & a coup ushers in new rulers to Guinea, let the people not forget the triumphs & dreams along with the failures of Kwame Nkrumah & Sekou Toure! The friendships, national & continental bonds in a dream of One Africa, in membership, unity & in one common focus of developing a self sufficient, self reliant & prosperous continent!

The world as we know it is changing around us. The global blueprints have already been written, it's a matter of the people deciding to have change , standing up for change & being change! If any government is to serve its people & to be globally recognized , then it must only be up to the people to vote them in & topple them in their lack of service or in their disservice! Checks & Balances are of human necessity! They eventually will come, the easy constitutional way or ugly hard murderous way! Power should never be seen as a permanent takeover!

Africans must "THINK" of the many years of lack of service, disservice, and dreams deferred & decide that change is now! It starts with Africans knowing, understanding & believing that Africans must also prepare for the long journey & Keep Their Eyes on The Prize! http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/eyesontheprize/

Mama Africa has soared thru the flames like a phoenix thru the ashes or a fairy God mother ; she has given Africa another opportunity to make good on its many dreams deferred with hopes that we will learn from our past in understanding that "I am my brothers keeper /I am my sister's Keeper & It takes a village .. " are at the core values of Africa & Africans. Without our core or with imbalance & hypocrisy in our core, we can never be complete in our growth! We need to recognize that each of our sufferings are interdependent rather than independent of one another. If one suffers we all suffer because our independence, progress & success as nations & as a continent can easily be taken off course, when we choose not to be our brother & sister's keeper! When the people are in despair & more fearful of government than the government fears the dissatisfaction of the people who they are to serve, this can only bring revolution ,anarchy or crisis!

A fire at your neighbor's house can easily spread to your house -so you're better off to be proactive in helping to extinguish the fire instead of cowardly staying locked in your house hoping the fire burns out before it reaches your door! The Global Fusion Way (The Global Fusion Handbook of Global Etiquette)!

With abundant growth in natural resources, oil discoveries, resources ripe for the global demand in telecommunications services ( only in Africa can I walk thru the deepest of bushes & get cell phones service, while I can barely get service from one room to the other in my New York city apartment -go figure!) & lets not forget the resurrection of a Global Green movement of which Mama Africa's stars continue to Shine in bringing new industry to Africa utilizing, refining & creating a new future for Africa thru it's natural resources! !Africa as a continent is on a global rise despite the many sufferings! 2009 will be very telling of the direction of the continent thru its people , its leadership & without a doubt, thru mother Africa's gift of her resources!

There are certain traditions in history that uniquely define us as people & should always maintain & sustain our development! If your brother in Zimbabwe, Kenya,Ghana, Guinea, Congo etc. is doing wrong & bringing shame, crisis, suffering & impeding the progress of the family, then you must call the elders together to handle the business at hand in dignity for the honor & progress of the family that is Africa!

I was told by a Ghanaian cab driver in New York that "Illiteracy is a disease killing Africa & it's forward movement" There is a lot of truth to that, but lack of formal education does not diminish ones capacity to think!

When We choose to "Think" we can finally answer & challenge the global question of -How is Africa so poor when it has an abundance of natural resources that sustain much of the world?!

Africa is rich in values & resources, but poor in fiances & knowing how to maintain our books -not so different from the bailed out banking, automobile & other industries thru out this global financial crisis & the trusting or swindling who were sold a lie & chose to believe it without "thinking it thru " & lost everything for an ill thought out dream or personal greed. This a time for those who know how to get by with very little , those who desire & create their own opportunity , those who know the value of hard work & those who are natural born survivors- Africans are way ahead in all those criteria. It's time for Africans to let Mama Africa help them help themselves!

www.youtube.com/globalfusionproduct

When will Africa think?
Published December 26, 2008 Hot , politics
http://kentgh.wordpress.com/2008/12/26/when-will-africa-think/#more-144

There we go again. Another useless and stupid coup d’etat in Guinea just hours after the former president Lansana Conte died. A gang of thieves and riff-raffs in military uniforms have rubbished the supreme document – Constitution - of the West African State and installed themselves as new leaders. This is thievery at its highest peak. Instead of the wild jubilation welcoming the decision of these inexperience young military officers turned leaders, Guineans should have defended their own constitution for the right thing to be done.

This is silly and at worst primitive. Gone are the days when coup d’etats were hailed in Africa. We have come of age and such remote tactics in taking political power by force is unacceptable in 21st Century Africa. We should be talking Information Technology and Communication, infrastructure development, new media and many other positive things and not coup d’etat and power struggles.

It is welcoming news that the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) among other international leaders condemn the illegitimate act in Guinea. That is not enough. They must put pressure and tough sanctions on Guinea until Camara and his cronies relinquish power immediately. The international community should bar their representatives from attending a so called meeting called by Camara to allay their fears.

The coup junta led by its appointed president, Capt. Moussa Dadis Camara, now the country’s de facto leader, has promised to stamp out nepotism and graft, hold elections in 2010 and improve living standards. Most Guineans live in poverty, even though the country is the world’s top exporter of aluminium ore bauxite, Reuters’ news stated.

That is useless talk. Why can’t Camara learn to do the right thing if he claims he stands for the well being of the same people he wants to help. He could have resigned honourably from the military, join or form a political party and stand democratic elections. The same person would hold elections in 2010, stand and rig in his favour. This is how civil conflicts begin. His actions alone are anathema to the constitution of Guinea and has made himself unfit to occupy the number one position of that country. He is a coupist and a power thief that should not be allowed to walk in the corridors of legitimate leaders.
Until we stand up against the likes of Camara, Africa would continue to remain a laughing stock to the rest of the world.

Responses to “When will Africa think?”
2 Sylvia December 26, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Great piece. Things seem to be getting worse rather than better amongst the behavior of the elite! As someone who interviews minority students in order to asses their readiness for boarding schools like Miss Porter's & my own alma mater, Pomfret School, I had to address this with my own personal story, as well as encourage all of you with kids & those of you who are educators to really take heed to this by getting more involved in how the quality of life of your kids effect their education, no matter where they are. The disrespectful bratty behavior & privileged drug use by my fellow students at my boarding school was something I knew would never be acceptable in my household- to think my mom sent me there to keep me from going to public school, getting involved with the wrong crowd & being faced with any drug use! Ivy colored walls often bury more skeletons than fenced in concrete!

This news story takes me back to having to kick this girl's ass at Pomfret because she was obsessed with my boyfriend at the time & decided she was going to take it out on me by trying to spit down on me from the stairs in our dorm. Let me pre-face this by saying before she got up the stairs she had intentionally bumped into me & I let it go because I knew she really wasn't ready to go there with me, nor did I care to engage her in that behavior just because I had what she wanted along with the fact that they would expect the Black girl to get in a fight & get kicked out for it. I was so enraged that I ran up those stairs like speedy Gonzales & beat the devil out of her. Spitting on another human being & thinking it is acceptable is defintely devilish behavior to me!

It was such a big deal at the school because they had never seen such a fight amongst female students at the school. Their way of trying to understand it was by trying to make me out to be some ghetto girl from New York who was use to fighting, had some sort of anger or mental issues, or only knew how to resolve issues by fighting. I went off on the entire faculty & student body about the blatant & undercover racism, classism, & stereotypes & made it very clear to them that I was not about to apologize for my actions even if it meant getting expelled from "the prestigious school that was to be my ticket to a brighter better future", along with letting them know that if anyone dared to ever try to do something as degrading & insulting as spitting on me that I would not hesitate to do it again. Needless to say I was not expelled or even punished for my actions- I am not sure if it was because they were afraid of a lawsuit, afraid of the angry crazy black girl, or really understood that I was in the right.

It had nothing to do with being from the hood or fighting over a boy -it had everything to do with self-respect, being an African -American who was making sure I would never let brazen degrading history repeat itself at an institution that was built on exclusion of people who looked liked me & were of the same socio-economic class as me , even though I was now supposed to feel a tremendous sense of privilege as one of a handful to be accepted into such a prestigious institution- even if it was at the cost of my own self-respect!

I in no way condone physically fighting someone as a resolution to any issue, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! This young lady had obviously never had her butt whooped or taught the lesson that you should never spit on anyone, so I felt at the time that is was my duty to teach her that lesson. As a mature adult, I understand that I have a lot more to lose now & a lot less time to get it all back if I chose the same route in future incidents.I actually had a generally good experience at Pomfret & would highly recommend it & hopefully have the opportunity to send my own future kids there one day.

I was privileged to see, meet, & speak with the late great Shirley Chisholm when she came to Pomfret as an invited guest speaker. I was also privileged to be shuttled in a van with my fellow minority students, or as they call us at these institutions, "non-traditional students", to listen , see & meet Maya Angelou at a nearby University for Black History month- all of which changed my life by giving me strength , direction & empowerment. Pomfret did try their best to be inclusive & accommodating to "the non traditional students".

When an institution is entrusted with young high school students 24/7 without parental supervision- it is up to that institution to make sure they are protecting the quality of life & growth of the students as a parent would & should. It's sad that Miss Porter's would rather protect their reputation than deal with the ills that directly effect students from getting the education & life experience that they are supposed to be providing.

I will never forget reciting Maya Angelou's poem to the entire student body & faculty at Pomfret as my direct statement to them after my personal incident. I had never felt more empowered & I knew that it was the start of a new beginning of understanding & respect between us all.
Aretha Amma Sarfo-Pomfret School 91'

Still I Rise

You may write me down in historyWith your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?'
Cause I walk like I've got oil wellsPumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,Still I'll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold minesDiggin' in my own back yard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history's shame I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clearI rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
Maya Angelou

Suit details girl's torment at exclusive school
Cruel clique at all-girls campus allegedly harassed student for months

HARTFORD, Connecticut - The bullying came at school dances and in class, on Facebook and back at the dorm by girls who called themselves "Oprichniki," a Russian attack squad notorious for torturing suspected enemies of a 16th-century czar.
The cruel clique at the exclusive Miss Porter's School allegedly harassed Tatum Bass for months, until two doctors advised her to take a break. That's when her tormentors put a "For Rent" sign on her bed and one of America's most selective, all-girls boarding schools threatened to expel her.
Bass and her parents responded with a federal lawsuit that offers a disturbing glimpse into life on the leafy campus in the affluent Hartford suburbs. To match tuition that can cost nearly $43,000, the school has an A-list of socialites, diplomats, artists and public servants among its graduates, including Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Gloria Vanderbilt.

According to the lawsuit, Bass was on the honor roll, played sports and was elected by her peers to a top position in student government before her trouble began earlier this year. As activities director, she proposed holding the senior prom with other schools nearby.
Opposition to the idea ballooned, leading to bullying and taunts that Bass was "retarded" because she has attention-deficit disorder. Bass said in the suit that the girls turned on her, calling her "stupid" and peppering her with profanity and insults. She said she was bullied in front of hundreds of people at a school dance, in classes, around campus, in text messages and online on the Facebook social networking site.
"This was the first time that negative attention was drawn to her disability at (the school)," the lawsuit said. "Oprichniki members were at the forefront of taunting Tatum in class and advising others about her disability."
Suit names school, headmasterThe lawsuit names the 165-year-old school and its headmaster, Katherine Windsor, as defendants. Windsor said in a written statement Wednesday that the lawsuit's claims "as portrayed in the media will be defended vigorously, and we believe that a comprehensive hearing of the facts will result in the exoneration of our school."
Messages left for Tatum's attorneys and family were not returned. None of Bass's tormentors are named in court papers.
In the depths of the ordeal, Bass said she uncharacteristically cheated on an art history test — then was so racked with guilt that she confessed to Windsor. Bullying intensified after she returned from a three-day suspension.
"(Her) emotional stress and anxiety became overwhelming," the suit said.
The lawsuit said the school and Windsor inflicted long-term damage on Bass' academic career by notifying at least one college about the suspension without giving her a chance to offer her side. The expulsion threat soon followed for her "unexcused absences" when she tried to complete her studies off-campus, a violation of school rules not detailed in the lawsuit.
A degree from Miss Porter's is considered a ticket into the Ivy League and a future potentially filled with wealth and privilege.
Like Bass — from Beaufort, S.C. — two-thirds of about 330 students at Miss Porter's this year are boarders from 22 states and 20 countries. The school's annual tuition is nearly $43,000 for boarding students and about $33,000 for "day students" who live within driving distance of the Farmington campus, about 10 miles west of Hartford.
Now, Bass' status at the school is unclear. The lawsuit asks a judge for an injunction barring Miss Porter's from sharing her academic status with colleges to which she has applied. It also asks for unspecified damages and reinstatement in good standing so she can graduate.global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-42849790090015430912008-12-10T14:35:00.000-08:002008-12-11T18:24:56.902-08:00PR companies are requested to Bring More Blacks to events after Obama election per Gawker.comThe Abomination of the Obama nation!
I was sent the articles below suggesting there is a new PR initiative to get more Black people on certain holiday party guest lists since Obama's election has inducted in a new era of Black chic!

This is so pathetic, but not surprising! It has been happening for years- As a PR/Marketing/Advertising specialist,I am well aware of it with my White clients who think putting people of color in Ad. campaigns would suggest that they are "an urban brand" but would be the first to beg for some Jay Z or Beyonce concert tickets or party invite for themselves or their kids. The last I knew urban means city, non-rural or cosmopolitan, but we as an industry (black, white & in-between) have allowed it to mean Black with all the connotations that came along with it -pre-Obama! Surprise, White people, some of us "Urban folks" are actually classy & intelligent! Surprise! Black people it is ok to be classy & intelligent!

The worst of it is when Black folks perpetuate the same behavior by specifically hiring white firms & beg to be included in their events. Lets not forget the era of Lizzie Grubman " It takes a Jewish Girl to get these Black guys in check", speaking of doing events for her Black hip-hop music clients. Instead of suggesting a list of good Blacks to invite to events, we should be having our own upscale events where this type of "ignorantes" are begging to get in to see what we are about & how we do things! Let's not make their jobs easier for them by giving them our list! I have been told a few times by clients & other white associates that "I am a different Black" or "not that kind of Black" or the best one "you are African not Black", because I can actually tell them exactly what part of Africa I am from, don't speak Ebonics & posess some class & intelligence. I guess President elect Obama is also acceptable by the same definition.

Surprise people!-Charlize Theron maybe as African as I am, but the majority of Africans are Black!!

We have bigger fish to fry as a people & as an industry than to consume ourselves with invites to holiday parties for people who have no interest in us outside of being decorative items for their shindigs!

If this is a genuine call for diversity then do it thru your hiring practices, so you have those that can represent, bring in & understand a broader range of diverse people instead of just having another gimmick, ploy or quick fix initiative that insults the intelligence of those that you are trying to include! Human beings are not accessories or decorative items for your pleasure or amusement!

Gawker
This Year's Most Fashionable Holiday Party Accessories Are Black People
By Hamilton Nolan, 11:03 AM on Tue Dec 9 2008,

Now that Obama has been elected, a tipster inside a PR firm tells us, clients are demanding "an increased number of African Americans added to the guest list" at their holiday parties. In the spirit of hope! The email can't really be "verified," but appears genuine and is just too important not to share. This firm has even assembled an official internal "Diversified Holiday Guest List," in which they rank the top 10 acceptable black socialite attendees, in order of desirability. Uh... yes we can? After the jump, meet the fashion world's ten favorite African-Americans for Obama-era parties. Thanks Barack…we are BACK!!!.Honestly, this is straight bullshit to us since we work in Marketing&PR and have dealt with the majority of clients trying to AVOID blacks showing up at their events—not to mention the non-hiring of Black promoters, DJ's, staff, etc. Now, suddenly we're in style? Well, just like any trend, this too may pass and then what? Back to Harlem and Brooklyn?Over the past few years, PR agencies, event promoters and venue owners behind some of the trendiest parties in New York and LA have been known to do everything in their power to avoid multiple numbers of brown faces in their venues, in an effort to maintain a "sexy" crowd. DJs spinning Lil' Wayne, 50 Cent and Timbaland to a non-black crowd with five or six sprinkles is sexy, but let a group of five black men (or women) show up at the door and it's a wrap. Aspiring party-goers of color would wait in despair as they are told that sneakers are not allowed or the place is suddenly at capacity while others who fit a different profile are let in right beside them. So now that we're back in style, should we jump for joy? Here's our chance to show just how proper and normal we are, just like the men and women who were deemed "acceptable" on the alleged "Diversified Holiday Guest List" developed by the same PR agency.
That's right, and to make matters worse, apparently there is even a "Diversified Holiday Guest List" floating around consisting of "acceptable" folks: Bonnie Hunt, Genevieve "2 steps away from the hood" Jones, Rachel Roy (wait, we thought she was Indian & White?), Marc Baptiste, Kehinde Wiley and others…
Well, because clearly these people are quite limited in their access to people of color, we took it upon ourselves to create our own list. We here at Parlour think that the selected group could use a little remixing with some better, more stimulating (for the record, we LOVE Marc & Kehinde!) Black NYC notables…so, we would like to nominate (in no particular order):
1. Michaela angela Davis (Fashionista, Editor, Activist)
2. I saw the chaos outside the airport in Thailand, amongst Thailand's people- brother to sister , neighbor to neighbor. I watched the Thai airport worker apologize & try to make an American man in a wheel chair understand that the airline has no control & were not being allowed to fly out of the airport because of the uprising of her fellow Thai brothers & sisters in what they saw as their last effort to fight for their Democracy & define Thailand as a nation.

She proceeds to try to tell the passenger that the Thai people are kind, smiling people (with her kind smile in the middle of chaos), & that what was going on outside did not define them; in terms of trying to inconvenience him, rioting & preventing him from his freedom to fly. The American passenger looked at her straight in the face & said " There is a major holiday in America that you are going to cause a lot of people to miss just because you have a little riot outside" ! Wow!

It is appalling regardless of the inconvenience to completely minimize the fight for a nation's sense of democracy big or small, to having to get to a holiday which has been allowed by our nation to be advertised/ summed up to having turkey, worrying about family drama erupting (according to a Thanksgiving travel survey- family drama erupting was the top worry for Thanksgiving travelers this year, surpassing traffic & travel delays), Black Friday and the start of a retail/consumerist orgy of capital -let alone worrying about your safety & the safety of others, while parts of the world around you are erupting. On the Day before Americans are to celebrate Being Thankful & Giving Thanks- remember the being thankful part of Thanksgiving! Even someone in a wheel chair, who is physically denied certain basic freedoms couldn't have that empathy or sympathy for his fellow human!

This dude is the biggest Turkey- Well worthy of a good Thanksgiving Roasting!! Please find this clip & put it online for Americans on our day of Thanks to see why it has been so hard to root out, as Barack Obama said tonight in his statement on the attacks in Mumbai, "The hateful ideology that lead to these attacks" !

We are experiencing the first tests of Change & what could /should be the definition of good governance in the world & a redefinition of America's relationship with fellow nations, while spreading her ideology of the fine balance of a capitalist based democracy.

We all have to do our part to be part of the Change we want to see! It starts with respecting one another as global citizens. I was disappointed in the lack of coverage of the Mumbai attacks today, even on news stations. On 9/11 the majority of the world came in solidarity & sympathy for the American people in condemnation of Terrorism, despite what they may have felt about America's foreign policy. All eyes were on America with a pursuit of the dissemination of information & to show the world how a few men & hateful ideology can cost so much destruction & devastation amongst innocent people. Doesn't India deserve the same coverage with the focus of the eyes of the world, as it is being attacked by the same hateful ideology? The marketing of Thanksgiving -sticking to the usual programming- in the same way showed to be of greater importance than the "little riot" another nation faced!

No one's happiness, hardships & freedom are lesser than yours! Let's let that be the redefinition of the America Way! -GLOBAL Fusion ProductionsInc .

http://worldfocus.org/blog/2008/11/25/violent-thai-protests-shut-down-airport/2923/comment-645

AUDIO: Patrick Winn, a correspondent for GlobalPost, speaks to Martin Savidge from Bangkok.

Tuesday saw more violence in Thailand, where supporters and opponents of Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat's government battled in the streets of Bangkok. Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
Location: Antigua and BarbudaLat/Lon: 17.03561°N / 61.86041°WElevation: 1319 ft / 402 m

First let me start with a question I'm sure everyone in Antigua can answer swiftly!"Is the proposed name change of boggy peak going to effect our economy?"Absolutely not!

I reflected on the matter and I ponder as I say to myself ; why isn't our prime ministeraddressing the real issues we are struggling with or fixingthe real problems that plague us instead of picking flowers and changing names of landmarks that helped to mold our island nation of Antigua!?Real "Change!" or just a name "Change!"?

This year is a very significant moment in history for the American people and AfricanAmerican people across the globe with what has taken place with Barack Obama's election as the 44th President of the United States. It has inspired the masses for change and positive change at that!

Being that I was born in America I also take pride and joy in the progression the country has made but as a West Indian at heart I am deeply concerned about the "change" that Baldwin Spencer has taken upon himself toexecute without even consulting the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

He, himself stated very clearly in the Antigua Sun Newspaperthat he did not know if it was "absolutely necessary" to seek the public's input on such a matter…this makes u wonder...does he really care about what we think or what we the people want!?

Antigua is country I was raised in most of my life by the very same people of Antigua.I can't even recount how many villages helped to raise me in the island cause I have traveledall its corners and have walked the hills many a times. Despite my rude and own-way West Indian behavior that characterized me in my younger days I was always welcomed with open arms andpushed in the right direction by whomever I encountered in my youth as I grew up there.

In my eyes, the proposed renaming of a national landmark that has had such significant value to the country's history and past maybe be a stunt of some sort to "I don't know", maybe get self gratifying publicity or lurePresident-elect Obama to the island to take a picture with u or to have a cup of tea over small talk about how u want to plant flowers in your fairytale gardens i dont know Mr.Minister!

To me this development somehow seems as just...plain out of order! In the book Heritage Treasures of Antigua and Barbudaunder Slavery's Places Of Memory/Boggy Peak it reads:"The highest point of the south-western Shekerley Mountains in Antigua, is Boggy Peak.It is here that the runaway slaves congregated while hiding in the forest. In 1687,twenty-seven runaways were known to be encamped in a palisaded 'maroon' camp at Boggy Peak. There had been a revolt of slaves, hunted down and taken dead or alive. The Militia stormed the camp and the leaders were burned in the following year."The above thoughts were written by the now deceased author Desmond V. Nicholson may his soul rest in peace.Desmond had been a major player in helping Antigua record its history on file for many decades. To record, research and express his endless knowledge on Antigua became his plightand one of his passions in life. As such, his motto was "Knowledge to be of any value must be communicated!".

So with that being said, this is my communication…my dissemination of informationon how I felt when I heard that Baldwin Spencer Wanted To Casually Change the name of our History. How can someone fathom to change the name of something that is part of our foundation and heritage over the excitement of one persons success?

You can say what you want… throw what you want at me… debate this matter as u like…but I will not respond nor will I entertain it. I just feel the need to speak out against this issue as a young designer and producerrepresenting a country that helped to mold me into the creative individual I am today as I work towards opening doornot only for myself but for the island I love. I would like nothing more than to see a positive change in the economyof Antigua but not at the cost of having the prime minister having "fun" at the people's expense!

How about instead of changing the name of a landmark, he cuts down his costs andexpenses as a wealthy individual and gives back to the community? Maybe that would get Obama's attention.Balwin Spencer said "I think Obama has been able to capture the imagination of the entire world".It is clear and obvious that Baldwin has a very wide imagination…maybe we should just call Antigua "Obama" and Barbuda "Barack" and done!

I really don't know much about politics or what Baldwin and his party arereally trying to do to help us personally, "me nah see nuttin!".How about investing on fixing more roads to and infrastructures, or putting together a tourism advertisement campaignon international television that can actually compete against the tourism markets of Jamaica and the Bahamasor even helping to make the streets safer for the women and children of our island?!Please Don't be the black McCain or the Bush of the Caribbean, bring real change not name changes!I'll say this though I do know about people, I do know about art and I do know about music and these songs and paintings you've been creating aren't very inspirational!global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-85158877589516895642008-11-08T15:24:00.000-08:002008-11-08T21:34:21.060-08:00MY PRESIDENT IS MY HERO

I found these two images of the obama family & the shared beautiful moment between lovers, on my space under the title My President is My Hero. This was how I was dreaming to introduce the movement of global fusion! November 4, 2008 - My dream was not only realized, but the ride went beyond my wildest dreams! Dreams do come true! Now the real work Begins!

Thanks for the shout out President Obama! Your sister Amma heard you loud & clear! LOL!! He spoke to us all, but he called me by name , so it was extra special!!

FORWARD EVER, BACKWARD NEVER
THE HEALING OF NATIONS! Today Change has Come -11/4//08

Today history, commonalities, differences, humanity, hope & forward movement as I see it, has come full circle!

The world watched & hoped to claim back the young nation that believed in change & freedom, & created a constitution for a democracy that welcomed all humanity with a common belief in hard work & a dream that would be branded thru out the world as, “The American Dream”!

Today I have seen the “American Dream” revived thru the eyes of the world. Today America has taken a historical step into the reconciliation & recognition of the contributions of our other forgotten founding fathers. Those who came to this land from the other side of our shared Atlantic waters, as the labor that tilled the land, created invention & innovation for the creation of the government & corporations that would develop America as a world renowned super power, that became the purveyor of the ultimate in freedom thru a dream called America, without an equally shared part in its success!

Today America has made good on the American Dream! The Dream of Crispus Attucks, who became the first casualty for the revolution. The dreams of many soldiers who fought in many wars, within & outside of our borders, to protect the dream called America, without equal claim to the dream. The dreams of Olympians, who brought America back Olympic glory, putting the nation on a global leadership stage by putting Hitler to shame, without being recognized as equally 100% American, in the only home that they ever knew, while wearing & serving the flag Proudly! The dreams of Dred Scott, the Underground Railroad, abolitionists, the movements of civil rights, women’s rights & human rights! The dream of being judged by the contents of one’s character, not by the color of one’s skin! The dreams of Nkrumah, who took the dreams & the revolution of Dr. King, Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, Yaa Asantewaa & all those who walked the road before & after, back to the other side of the same Atlantic waters that was compliant in what would become the tarnishment & hypocrisy of the dream called America; To bring freedom & to say never again, with the coined phrase of Forward Ever, Backward Never, as a call for a continental & global movement! Today we have set the souls of our collective ancestors free with a welcoming seat at the head of the table, by the will of the collective unified American People! Today the call of the majority has been heard unequivocally!

Today Cynics, Believers & Independents globally are one in awe of a new chapter in American history. America is ready, willing & able to reclaim its global brand, where you can make it if you try! An America that speaks to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, a forward moving revolutionary young nation that welcomes all to the republic for which we stand, under one nation, indivisible, under one God of many believers & non-believers, with justice & Liberty for ALL!

Whether it is as cynical as our money that brought us together, or as euphoric as the simplicity of being a genuine class act with a message of CHANGE, that united a nation who had lost its way, to come together in understanding that despite our differences- just because things are “so” or “as they are, or always have been”, for however long – If the people decide to unite for our collective change then CHANGE can be “SO”!

The pressure & dreams of a nation & the world, with a collective desire for peace, sovereignty, economic independence, with a seat & say at the table of our global family, has been put on the shoulders of a man, who is just that, A Man!

Barack means Blessed, not Messiah! He is a flesh & bone mortal man. A mere representation & wake-up call to us all as individuals, families, nations, tribes, religions, classes, sexes, races, & everything in between , that we all have the ability as leaders to create Change within ourselves & for the greater good! Perhaps only one that is named blessed can show us all that we are all individually blessed by the virtue of our humanity!

America, in its youthful leadership, revolutionary curiosity & call for change was & is a creation of 50 states with a collection of ancestral spices that represent the world, within which we call America!

Today, Barack Hussein Obama is just as American as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Ronal Reagan, William Jefferson Clinton , apple pie, collard greens, mac & cheese, Thanksgiving, Chinatown, Korea town, little Africa, little Italy, little Brazil, little India, little Russia, Puerto Rican Day Parades, St. Patrick Day Parades, Columbus Day Parades, Memorial Day Parades, Caribbean Day Parades, Christianity, Judaism & Islam, under one American Dream of Freedom & True Democracy For & By the People!

Today Life as you know it has, should & can Change just from the message alone!

NOW THE HARD WORK BEGINS-CHANGE STARTS WITH YOU!
FORWARD EVER BACKWARD NEVER! Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

It’s a new day, it’s a new life for me & I’m feeling Good!!
Nina Simone!!

See you on the other side of Change!

Aretha Amma Sarfo & The Global Fusion Movement!

Get Fused http://www.globalfusionproductions.com/

global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-75205463732919688072008-08-29T07:54:00.000-07:002008-08-29T13:52:13.399-07:00Today American History is Written -Obama gets another 1st & McCain gets to tout more Maverick Republican.

Today American History is recorded! Hillary Clinton gets another first & makes good with the sisterhood of the traveling pant suits in reviving the women's movement, Barack Obama gets another 1st and makes good with civil rights leaders of all hues to reach the mountain top where McCains, Bushes , Palins, Clintons , Kennedys , Singhs, Chens, Rodriguezes, Mohammeds, Jacksons, Smiths, Takizawas & Obamas, all have just as much right & claim to America & the white house as the other. Today McCain took back the democratic unity thunder & wrote his own ticket to history by getting himself a stand in for Hillary Clinton in order to be able to continue to tout more Maverick Republican. If the real thing won't work for you getting her votes by virtue of advertising, why not get an imitation. Now the maverick can also get on the straight talk bus of the Change that is going to & Will Come! Maverick (Being independent in thought and action or exhibiting such independence. One that refuses to abide by the dictates of or resists adherence to a group; a dissenter).

After Democrats have proven with 18 million votes that America is ready to see a woman in the White House, other than the first lady, it finally hits the republicans that Americans truly want change & not more of the same. Is McCain a maverick for change or one that brings change to help his political desire to win by any means necessary? Is McCain truly a maverick or pulling the ultimate "okey doke" for women who want to bring their own history to fruition which they fought so hard for & thought rested with Hillary Clinton. McCain has taken the page out of the Democratic book in continuation of his idea of himself as an independent thinker that breaks from the ranks of old school Republican ideas, since the Republican Party has never charted such unknown territory as a woman VP. The Democrats recognized a woman's worth as second in command & having the ability to lead our nation when called on in 1984, but it took 24 years & 18 million women's votes in a highly contested election year of change to let the Republicans step up & not take the woman's vote for granted.

It just seems like an unfortunate ploy of desperation to use a women to get the woman's vote that McCain couldn't get on his own maverick ideals. We should have all known that this may have been McCain's checkmate after he tested the waters by using Hillary Clinton's achievements as a woman in an attack Ad. against Obama, for not putting her second in command, without any real sense of outrage from women or Hillary Clinton over such use of her achievements & celebrity to push his own political agenda. Even Paris Hilton fought back at the use of her achievements as a celebrity being used against Obama to bring attention to McCain.

Any sort of complacency by anyone who wants change in whatever manner, can drastically change the future of America. We did not heed this call in the last election & received 4 more years of worse than the same. Young people promised to stand up & let their vote be counted in the last election along with millions of new registered voters, but when it came down to be counted many sat idly by as we experienced war, economic, national & global crisis leading us to the crossroads of Change that we now face.

As much as I am ecstatic as An African-American & as a woman witnessing all these firsts & maverickisms that are setting the stage for the much needed progress toward the type of change needed for a nation, at a time of suffering thru war, environmental & economic crisis; I can't help but to see it as reflective of one of the darkest periods of suffering & biggest leaps of Change in American history, The 60's. As we celebrate & make comparisons with Barack Obama's time in history to the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a Dream" speech in 1963 & JFK's democratic nomination acceptance speech in 1960, lets not forget the failures, road blocks & the everyday Americans who just had enough & wanted a better America & stood up & were counted to bring about the achievements that made their journeys just as impossible as possible along with the faith that kept their dreams alive for many generations to come. The dream toward the future of America; one that would be newly redefined, free of our many isms (racism, sexism, religious isms), and one that would return to our foundation of a moral high ground, a global leader that promotes & exemplifies freedom in our own individual freedom of choices & destinies, that is only limited by our own individual determination , hard work & imagination! This is the foundation that America was to represent to & for all the people, religions, cultures, sexes and individuals of the globe, who all had a hand in creating what is known globally as "The American Dream". It may mean different things for every individual, but at the foundation of it is hard work = achieving your dreams/limitless possibilities.

John McCain threw in his checkmate by making today about him & his limitless possibilities in throwing everyone for a loop with his choice for VP, Governor Sarah Palin, a first time governor of Alaska. Alaska = issue of offshore drilling, Sarah Palin = 18 million women's votes possibly up for grabs. I hate to be so cynical on this as Governor Palin has fought to make her own way into the history books, but it seems McCain will do or say anything to win & Barack Obama better be ready to also do whatever it takes to win. I guess that's classic American too- "survival of the fittest"!

Now that everyone can say they are a maverick or on the change ticket equally reflective of the new era of historical occurrences that are to bring CHANGE to the fabric of America , lets get to the real issues & not let the divides of the 60's once again keep us from fully achieving Change! Let's not forget Jim Crow, The Women's Movement, The Civil Rights movement, the inner battle amongst women of color in America & in particular Black American women to be put in a place where their allegiance to race & gender would be tested, the never ending Vietnam war, the clash amongst race, gender, religion , the haves & the have nots. Let's truly examine how far we have come when we cast our vote! The world is once again keeping a watchful eye on America to see if we can stand up to the test & come out as a world leader; honestly & truly reflective of the freedom & the limitless ideal of the "American Dream".

No matter what any one says about people around the world hating America , the ideals of "The American Dream" represent their definition of America . Whether they believe it to be an attainable goal reflective of our times & progress, or just the folklore of America's past remains to be seen. Our CHOICE as AMERICANS, not women ,Black Americans , White Americans, Asian Americans , Latino Americans, Catholic Americans, Muslim Americans, Jewish Americans, Gay Americans, and all of the other attachments & hyphenations which we uphold to define ourselves beyond Americans, will define our leadership in the world. America is reflective of all of the attachments that we add to defining who we are because the foundation of Americans & America was attained based on all the different attachments & those that came before them under one nation with liberty & justice for all. The Chinatowns, Koreatowns, Provincetowns, little Italys , Harlems, el barrios, north, west, east & south sides, temples, mosques, cathedrals etc., all make up what the fabric of America the beautiful & lady liberty is all about!

We all have a place in America & the right to the fruits of America that was made possible thru the service, commitment, blood, sweat, tears & love of America displayed by our founding fathers, our ancestors , and those that came before us and set our path as Americans. Let's focus on the things that unite us as Americans instead of the attachments that divide us. Let's understand that the idea of Change is not too far fetched or too hard to achieve, or needs decades of experience to bring to fruition. Let's understand that Change is not having countless dreams deferred while others thrive in the same struggle for civil rights, women's rights & equal rights for all Americans!global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-38083341506456569392008-03-12T13:28:00.000-07:002008-03-12T13:34:40.397-07:00CORPORATIONS , ADVERTISING DOLLARS & THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN!
LET'S CONVINCE CORPORATE ENTITIES WHOM WE PATRONIZE TO SPEND AS MUCH ON THIS
<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5176955967612269250" style="DISPLAY: block; We were very motivated because of the way they spoke, relating to their own life stories which sounded very inspirational. Two of the topics which we heard that inspired us the most is to have passion about what you are doing and to also be proud about our nation and culture.
We took something out from passion because through their stories because they all worked for free at some point in their lives just because they had passion for their profession, but they have still been able to achieve their aims. We learned that to choose something to do, you have to have passion for it or else you are not going to end successfully. Our culture was also a topic we liked because they told us that for you to be great you will have to know about your history and culture because it’s a great knowledge that no-one else can take away from you.
Our exciting moment was when Mums gave us some good raps and also had a running race with Edward, a fourth generation player, which Mums lost!
We really appreciated what they did for us because not all people will like to spend their time with young lads like us. From last Friday when they came to visit us, we still have been discussing about the visit because they brought us good messages that can have a good impact on our lives. God bless all of them and we wish that they will come back and take a class again.

Edward Opoku & Yaro Joshua

The Right to Dream Academy was founded in the year 1999. It was founded by a man called Tom Vernon who is from the UK. It is one of the well known academies in Ghana. There are four generations in the Academy but the first and second generations are graduating, leaving the third and fourth generation.
This Academy has been and is doing a lovely job and great work in Ghana by taking scholars from all over Ghana and giving them the opportunity to build a future through sport and education. Full scholarships are given to children so they do not pay for anything.
The Academy is focused and based on three main things which are the following:
Football Side: The Academy have scouts who go around Ghana every day and search for young talented players to help them achieve their dream of playing football to a high level at the same time as getting a good education. The Academy have qualified and food coaches who give the children the right training needed. They also have the right equipment and also give the children all that they need to train.
Education Side: The Right to Dream Academy gives the right education to the boys and they are even more concerned with the education as they are with the football side. Teachers are always available in the Academy to help boys with their school work.
Attitude: Attitude they say is what makes a person. The staff of the Academy see to it that the boys are taught the right moral values and manners. Classes are held in the Academy to teach the boys how to manage all aspects of their life. We are all happy here, as the Academy is helping us to achieve our aims and dreams.

Right To Dream Ghana
Address:
PO Box 21040
Accra Central
Accra
Ghana
E-mail:
info@righttodream.com
Telephone:
00 233 246 125 376
http://www.righttodream.com/

To see more blogs & learn more go to:http://web.mac.com/stanley.lumax/Back_to_My_Roots_08/Back_To_My_Roots_Blog/Back_To_My_Roots_Blog.html

global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-58831696922426656522008-02-24T11:04:00.000-08:002008-02-24T11:05:55.611-08:00WAVES FOR AFRICA- AFRICA SURF CAPITAL

Recognize!

Travel and See: Highlife in Ghana
Music and colour and seeping pollution are some of the ups and downs of surfing in a country that, despite being featured in Endless Summer in 1966, is virtually surfer-free. One that is a global crisis, where the healthcare system is based first on how much money you have rather than the Hippocratic oath, where there is no real governance over the assurances of the Hippocratic oath , No real laws on the books being upheld to grant & take care of the rights of family to have the ultimate ability & say without stigma, to easily & lovingly handle the needs of the family. We are not taking care of our mentally ill children or the adults. The continual drugging of our young people under the auspices of prescription/legal drugs that are administered to keep them in line, to keep their demons down & to help their brains function properly etc. , has turned into out of control dependency & the battle thereafter to go back to "feeling like yourself again".

It turns into a rejection of drugs & those things who they feel is holding them from feeling like themselves again. It's a battle of mind & body & when the body wins, it lets go & unleashes the manic where it feels no pain. Some maybe able to come out and deal with the mind, but many are not able to find the ability to find that balance or to go back. The battle is there on the smallest of levels with my grandmother just feeling out of control & wanting to feel like herself again, by not taking the medications that were all for non- mental conditions, just elderly ailments. The feeling of not feeling like herself & not having any control of it was taking her into a craze, but then there is the level of someone who is bi-polar, wanting to feel like themselves again & not having the capability to fully balance & control both mind & body, which can turn into disastrous results like the school shootings & many mentally ill people who seem to be lashing out lately -according to news reports. How many more before we do something about it! It is a public health issue that will effect all of us -one way or the other.

While in Ghana my grandmother was going thru a hard time healthwise & was feeling weak & "unlike herself" as she told me. She prayed to God & asked him to bring her out of this period & told me it's all in God's hands. She did not want to take anymore of the countless medications being administered to her, by a young caretaker who knew nothing about what she was giving to my grandmother outside of the instructions on the bottle on how many pills to administer. I looked at the bottles & tried to figure out what was what , what ailment each pill was to cure or ease etc. I, as a college grad could not figure it out , but there was also no real explanation outside of the instructions on how MANY pills to administer. My aunts & mother in the States ended up intervening, in order to take my grandmother to a private doctor. The private doctor was a lot more expensive, but took the time to check her thoroughly & realized that she was taking about 4-6 medications too many for ailments she no longer suffered from & it was now causing her deterioration. All of these prescriptions were prescribed by doctors at the public hospital that takes her health insurance.

My grandmother immediately left the private doctor's office with a new attitude & automatically felt better because of the type of care she received & the doctor interacting with her & making sure he knew of any pains , illnesses & feelings that she wanted to express. Doctors are not gods & none of them are fool proof, but the one thing that is full proof is the desire to do good, truly abiding by the Hippocratic oath & having a good bed side manner , which is just based on basic human interaction & allowing your patients to be part of the process & to be listened to & heard.

My Grandmother's own body told her that she was "Not herself" & was finally rejecting the drugs in a way that she had to listen. This time it was not just the basic not wanting to take the pills because she didn't like it or was making her feel weak type of rejection. This time it felt very different & she no longer wanted to take the pills because it was too much for her & she ended up being right!

It's unfortunate that money determines what level of care one receives or if they receive any at all, world wide. People are battling the overdosing of prescriptions & taking people outside of themselves. In Ghana there is still a system of local herbal remedies that do work & have been the solution for many. A proper, thoughtful balance with both traditional ( being the one of traditions, no experiment here, many centuries of practice, long before so called traditional medicine as we know it existed) and Experimental ( being the one which we see as traditional in modern times). Prescription drugs & prescribing many of them at once is experimental because you are mixing up chemicals that have not been pre-mixed & tested in a lab together, while with natural remedies -it is of nature in its purest form without any chemicals unless it has been added by people. It is already clear in its formation & growth what natural herbs do & do not mix together naturally. The balance of these worlds with people truly dedicated to taking care of the people's health is what I truly hope can occur, but it takes individuals to see past self & monetary gain to be able to really see "the human being -just like you"!

We really need to start caring about one another & ourselves because it is destroying us. I came back to find out many more celebrities are in rehab, more school shootings, more diagnoses of mental illness, more campaign talk on the need for proper healthcare without any concrete easily implemental plans that can occur as we speak, instead of waiting until after the election year. Sometimes government seems to think its job is to campaign instead of the actual job of governance. I came back to hear more of the same reporting & no real action taken by government, the people, healthcare unions, systems, workers, etc.

We have been trapped with the greed & why bother to fight the system type of attitude amongst our collective healthcare systems, along with the greed of pharmaceuticals putting out drugs like a fashion house puts out a new collection every season. Having to be sexier, hotter , more powerful, bold & exciting than last season, in order to sell. Unfortunately people's lives & the amount of prescription drugs being pushed & administered has more lethal consequences than how many layers of clothing & labels you choose to put on your body in a given day!

There's a whole lot of money everywhere in the world right now because of countless resources that are indegenous to each place in the world & the collective need for these resources. We should all be able benefit in it's fruits! MTN spent millions on hosting the Africa Cup of Nations, while half of the money could have gone to countless people in need of healthcare & health insurance . Look at a Black Star player like Stephen Appiah providing basic health insurance for his town in Ghana. Individuals can make a diffrence & sometimes it takes individuals make sure government is taking care of it's people without the excuses on how things take time & the impossibilities rather than getting rid of the red tape & just doing it -just as an individual like Appiah was able to do. Look at the billions of advertising dollars spent on sports events & every type of event. a 1/4 of some of these budgets could fund a lot that ails us a s a country & global community. We all have a collective responsibility. Let's take care of the basic needs of the people as coperations , individuals & governments, so we can all be at ease with fruits of profit! Sometimes it is the responsibility of the people to show government that it can be done & that the excuses are no longer palatable when individuals have taken it into their own hands & made it work.

The future to me looks bright because while there's suffering, there is also greatness occurring thru out the world. We have to fix the basics & get back to being Human Beings instead of robots!

The Oath Hippocrates
Hippocrates was a Greek physician born in 460 BC on the island of Cos, Greece. He became known as the founder of medicine and was regarded as the greatest physician of his time. He based his medical practice on observations and on the study of the human body. He held the belief that illness had a physical and a rational explanation. He rejected the views of his time that considered illness to be caused by superstitions and by possession of evil spirits and disfavor of the gods.
Hippocrates held the belief that the body must be treated as a whole and not just a series of parts. He accurately described disease symptoms and was the first physician to accurately describe the symptoms of pneumonia, as well as epilepsy in children. He believed in the natural healing process of rest, a good diet, fresh air and cleanliness. He noted that there were individual differences in the severity of disease symptoms and that some individuals were better able to cope with their disease and illness than others. He was also the first physician that held the belief that thoughts, ideas, and feelings come from the brain and not the heart as others of him time believed.
Hippocrates traveled throughout Greece practicing his medicine. He founded a medical school on the island of Cos, Greece and began teaching his ideas. He soon developed an Oath of Medical Ethics for physicians to follow. This Oath is taken by physicians today as they begin their medical practice. He died in 377 BC. Today Hippocrates is known as the "Father of Medicine"

The Oath By Hippocrates Written 400 B.C.E

I SWEAR by Apollo the physician, and Aesculapius, and Health, and All-heal, and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation- to reckon him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine, but to none others. It is not about poor Africans or any feeling sorry for someone having less , it is about our shared experiences & differences & each one teach one. These kids that get so excited when you teach them how to work a digital camera, that some of our kids in the USA may take for granted, also happen to live amongst make shift unfinished mansions on acres of land with their backyards being the tourist attraction of the water falls, where they just hang out & fish daily, something that is unimaginable to many kids in the US! You can't have a house inside central park , botanical gardens or rainforest, but for them it's steps away & a part of their infrastructure! It is all a matter of perspective. Eventhough they have something that is priceless, economics does not allow them the means to choose whether to spend the little money they are able to make on proper soccer cleats or the cost of a basic education & food, whether or not they maybe the next super star or not! The crazy part is that the Ghana GH (cedi) is higher than the us dollar -last I check 1 gh was 91 cents! Anyone can see that there's clearly something wrong in the balance!

"Give a Man a fish & feed him for one day , teach a man how to fish and feed him for eternity"

However that saying may go, it is a very real & true clique. We need to help these young people preserve where they came from and let it benefit them economically, so they have many choices within their own communities instead of always having to put their hopes outside. Allow them to have progression with some preservation. There's a certain character of a city that Accra possesses, with it's insane driving & traffic, people banter and just straight hustle that is very reminiscent of 125th street in Harlem USA, and I am sure amongst areas of diasporans throughout the world & just cities in general! It has the crazy city vibe that lets you truly enjoy the peace of going up to the mountains sooo much more!

I recognized that my home will be in the mountains because I am past that city madness stage, but it's always a little nice to recharge off of some of that energy when necessary. Just imagine your energy level being at 100% being caused by people who are at about 50% and not being acknowledged by anyone to figure out a solution because to do that they would have to get off of the 10 % level by having some sort of direct & immediate finacial or material incentive that may take them to the 50% level OF PRODUCTIVITY & SPEED. I was on the verge of going ballistic until i stopped to really observe the dynamic. They knew things were crazy, but it was not that serious to them because the focus was on individual plans to go elsewhere for change or to just get thru today a little richer than when they started the day.

Getting to know yourself thru others outside of your comfort zone is PRICELESS.

global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-12975085880138225822008-02-16T17:41:00.000-08:002008-02-17T11:52:45.376-08:00BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE! This was the master plan to bring back some sort of excitement & unity into a slowly dying party. Unfortunately the worst foil for a master plan to squash a revolutionary evolution is an educated human being, let alone, an educated negro.

It is the makings of the underground railroad, the abolitionists, the true humanitarians who volunteer & give of their time & self worldwide, wanting & believing in change, even though they keep getting told that it is a lost cause, the slave sneaking in the education and sharing the knowledge with others , being the best worker or apprentice, while calculatingly building on a goal, in preparation to go beyond the teacher's set plan to have the student walk in his footsteps, until he is ready to relinquish power. Forever working for him & within his steps, instead of doing better or being more progressive than the teacher.

One can see this as the Bush Story in its basic elements. Surpassing the father into a second term & bypassing the intended plan because he had surpassed the teacher.
Maybe Bush was here to set off the global chaos & imbalances that are effecting us all collectively, in order for real change to have to come out of absolute necessity & thru the true fight & desire of the people, for its urgency! However one deals with the opportunity or necessity is the choice of the people and their leaders in all of its extremes, until we all recognize ourselves as collective leaders. Maybe Bush Jr. saw that the chance for a complete global change is now & bypassed the plan to have a slow deterioration into another war & chose to shake it up and hope for the best instead of the usual status quo of his father & the intended plan. Call me crazy, but think about it. I am far from a Bushy, but I don't really see Bush Jr. as the epitome of evil, more toward somewhat ignorant, naive, clueless, non-chalant & possibly idealistic.

When the student is ready to unleash & bypass the teacher is when the real battle starts because the student must be absolutely ready, willing & able to win & be the Change! Unfortunately, Obama's calling came earlier than the Clintons/Democrats had expected, but came right on time for some wayward, Bush/Cheney, Clinton -overdosed & rehabbed Dems., republicans, independents & global people, in general who secretly had wished for this! Real Change has no master plan because it's about the moment! Like anything in life, you can't force change, but when you are ready to change -there is a certain force that is undeniable & basically kicks you in the ass because there really is no other choice!

Bush Jr. gave more aid/funding to Africa than even Bill Clinton- our so called 1st Black President of the US who was upposedly so good for black people globally. Bush is now on his tour of Africa to collect or according to him to "show the success stories in Africa that the USA has played a part in".

We live in a global world where we all must make deals & work together for the benefit of all. It is in the workings of those deals that we must be careful to keep just as much of a close & watchful eye on our friends as we keep on our enemies, because we can all go astray at times & greed is the sure fire way to turn friends into enemies. History has proven this whether it comes from cash advances, trade or the bible! Ghana strived as the Gold Coast with many so called friends wanting to revel in its success. Ghana along with other African countries are now drilling for oil, with many coming along to revel in that success as friends & investors. Let's learn from the mistakes of the past & make the right type of agreements to benefit all the people while sharing our resources.

As said with such elation & eloquence by a man at the internet cafe at the airport in Accra, during our conversation with him after he watched the results of the caucuses on line:

"Hilary you are the champion, everyone knows you are the champion, you have done well & will do great things, but your time has come & gone , it is now Obama's time - bow out gracefully & you will still be seen as a champion, but continue fighting & you will just disgrace yourself and tarnish your champion"

It was amazing to see how much people in Ghana were into watching & knowing about the caucuses in the U.S. We are clearly a global world living parallel lives as human beings, all wanting & needing change & a true sense of peace, family & belonging! Africans didn't BELIEVE, just as many African-Americans didn't BELIEVE in the possibility of Obama. I didn't even believe, but it was never because I didn't believe in the possibilities strictly based on color. My vote was never going to be strictly based on color but true substance & action. I wanted to see Obama prove that he knew he could win & was ready to do so, "The Fired Up & Ready To Go" attitude that he brought after the rock star period had died down, showcased the fact he realized the difference between those that were there just for the party & those that were there for the long haul, ready to put up the best fight & most of all ready to Win on & for Change! I was not going to have my vote strictly based on color, ethnicity, or ancestry as I hoped no other person would use such a criteria to shortchange a nation & the world, by not choosing the absolutely best leader possible.

Obama has brought a true sense of hope, unification , desire & motivation instead of helplessness in working toward change. I watched & kept talking about how young Caucasian college students & young grads, were the ones that recognized that Obama was the true change & pushed him to be the collective people's choice on a global front because he does truly represent everything global change is about; even if the initial push was on the basic level of being an active participant in the making of history! It took the aid of sympathetic slave owners, abolitionists, Jewish, Irish, Italian etc. civil rights activists to build up & move the movements for change in America, sprouting out the women's movement and other movements. Change always came about because of our collective voice & actions & it can olny have lasting effects & results if it is done & attained in that manner. The answers, directions, guidelines, wrongs & rights are all written in history -we just have to recognize, pay homage, learn from it & keep history progressive!

We may all have our differences, but there are the chosen few that you just can't deny or exude much negativity toward - it just doesn't work & just comes off as basic silly, petty, jealous HATERATION!

Wanlov, The Kubolor is just that human being. Someone that steps up & makes others see that it's time to step up and unify because the respect of the people is in its unification. He lives & wears his chosen name. He's Wanlov - a man of peace, reflection & love & the Kubolor - the epitome of hood boy, thug or gangster culminating into one word, Kubolor! It's always peace, I mean, Chale, he wears a skirt! However when the battle is brought he slays the mic, by silently shutting down another MC, letting him know NOT to clog up his ears with earwax because he doesn't know him like that & did not invite him onto his mic/set - all with smooth, sharp, peaceful, Wanlov precision!!

Wanlov brings the people together & makes it a point to make sure all our recognized as an equally contributing collective, when the focus & the light is clearly shining off of him.

It's wrong of me to put such pressure to live up to all that I have described, but I leave it at only each individuals experience & personal inspiration. Being in Ghana, I remember how ridiculous I thought it was for the people to put so much pressure on the soccer players , even going as far as threatening a soccer players mother because they felt he wasted goals that he could have scored. It is at most ridiculousness & at least unfair to put such high pressure on individuals to bring us hope , faith or to get that fight & sense of leadership that we all possess in whatever capacity, within & thru ourselves. I can also understand the fact that there are some chosen ones that sort of have to help move the crowd : Rakim, Nkrumah, Ghandi, Che, Bob Marley, Osibisa, Fela Kuti, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King, Nelson, Mandela, Kennedy, Eleanor Roosevelt, Oprah, Harriet Tubman, Maya Angelou, Marvin Gaye, Mohammed Ali, Azuma Nelson, Abede Pele, James Brown, Hattie McDaniel etc. Whatever your politics & personal feelings their purpose was felt & If they did not do anything at all , atleast they set off Aspiration & Inspiration !

Being in Ghana & interviewing so many different types of people from government , entertainment, African American expatriates, European, Lebanese, Liberian, Caribbean- non recognized citizens- who have been living in Ghana for most of their lives, and the new settlers from all over the globe that came , loved it & decided to make it home & realized that although certain western styles & materialism was coveted certain western ideals were not recognized or attained & had very little sense of urgency in attaining them or foregoing certain traditions or non-traditions; thereby bringing a certain sense of frustration amongst everyone even though they all wanted & believed in one collective mission toward basic peace, belonging, having the basic right to proper food, shelter, clean air, healthcare, clean water, living wage, basic human rights & the basic right to have the ways & means to get ones just due in order to make & have change!

global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-35968658361301253062008-02-13T02:42:00.000-08:002008-02-14T14:48:40.936-08:00Ghana's Children! Yesterday the word exhaustion was all I could write to describe my day at a film set in Ghana .

The City of Accra, I guess is much like every city with it's chaos, superficiality, un-cleanliness & just insane energy that keeps you on the edge or in a constant battle! The traffic & extreme defensive driving here surpasses LA & any place i know that is known for their traffic. Let's not even talk about the exhaust fumes from cars, burning tires & plastics that is choking the air & life out of this city, yet everyone seems to think all the birth defects & illnesses stem from some sort of voodoo instead of the obvious environmental hazards that is suffocating this city!

Today I really went back to my roots by going up to the mountains of Awukuga, where I basically grew up as a baby with my grandmother. The air was clean, the mountains were beautiful, the people where peaceful, the food was delicious & inexpensive, the service was excellent & gracious, the streets were clean, and there was no traffic, fights or anything to remind me of any of my bad experiences in Accra. I had promised to go to a soccer academy in a town that was basically a walk away from the town I grew up in . I really didn't have any idea that I would be going to my family's hometown today because I was not really sure where the soccer academy was located. It was an absolutely amazing day of seeing kids that grew up where I did, wanting to learn from me & my crew about what we do and just being in the beautiful picturesque peaceful place that I remembered as a child- & have always kept with me of my GHANA or Africa! To have the opportunity to be able to be some sort of role model & to feel like I was actually doing something that is or could be helpful, made all the ups & downs that I have had disappear! I learned so much about myself, the people that I came with, where I came from, and just life! I recognized exactly what global fusion is all about & the need for "each one teach one " on a global scale! I went back to my beginnings and received the power, revitalized energy, awakening & release that I needed to continue my mission to live out Nkrumah's "forward ever, backward never" with, thru, and for Ghana, our global community & myself! I am ecstatic that I came on this mission, came with a specifically chosen crew and feel great about what is to come, what life has in store, and my desire to never stop fighting for what I know it can be!! Win or lose on the soccer field I am a proud Ghanaian, and I am proud of us as a people! Talking & Looking thru those children's eyes , I saw their curiosity and the idea that they wanted achievement not only for their own success & superficial benefit, but for the benefit of Family! This is the Ghana that I know & love & will continue to push to maintain & bring to the forefront!!

Today I feel ELATION!!
global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-66856604448654036822008-02-10T12:36:00.000-08:002008-02-10T13:52:40.739-08:00exhaustion! feb 8thExhaustion! The culmination of my day! Sums it all up!

Ghana has really kicked my ass, but I have come too far not to complete the battle, prophecy, mission or whatever best describes the necessity for accomplishment of a destiny that is far beyond just oneself!

There is so much work to be done here & the people of Ghana need to recognize that mimicry can never create a film, music, or any type of industry. Authenticity is what makes any industry unique & sort after. Replicating what already exists is never acceptable or very sellable plus the chances are even worse when the mimicry is done badly! There is so much talent here but knowing how to utilize it & making it authentic is very hard to come by because everyone's desire is to go west & to be westernized!

I was on a film set where the main actress, who is well known in Ghana & Africa was clad in Dior from head to toe in an abominable manner, with blue contacts & to me really looking clownish , or better yet a broke down Lil' Kim, but yet everyone thought she looked so hot & thought the costume designer who was putting these atrocities together was fantastic. The costume designer is fantastic because she is perhaps one of the most real & hilarious people I have ever met, so you gotta love her even if she is a hot mess!! Ghana is filled with beautiful fabrics & skilled sewers who can make fantastic, original, & authentically Ghanaian designs with just a little direction, but instead of tapping into this, elevating our people, & really showcasing the talents of Ghanaians , we would rather style our top actresses in Dior & other labels & do it so badly that it takes away from their beauty along with being everything that Dior would never want to be. Cheap Imitation & mimicry will be the downfall of a budding entertainment industry in Ghana if we don't check ourselves & work together to make it authentically Ghanaian!global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-52130688248213998302008-02-04T14:40:00.000-08:002008-02-05T14:32:23.642-08:00GHANA VS. The intensity of the people in the stands was beyond over whelming. This rivalry of the two cousin nations has been known to erupt into dangerous levels. There were a few fights, way too much bottles of water being thrown on everyone in the stands by people in the stands to showcase their excitement. I along with some people were not so amused by this display of excitement, it became really intense when plastic water bottles were being thrown on the field particularly after the Black Stars’ captain received a red card. Ghana was able to pull off a 2-1 win after much painstaking anticipation of what was going to be the outcome of the match. The celebrations in the streets were vibrant, jubilant & at times recklessly dangerous –especially when a group of young guys stopped traffic & covered the front of cars with a huge Ghanaian flag impeding the sight of drivers, while others stopped traffic with their bodies, as they threw themselves on top of cars, made make shift blockades & bonfires with tires in the streets. The jubilation was exciting & wonderful for the people of Ghana, but those that behaved in reckless behavior take the excitement out of it, when one has to fear for his/her life. The intensity & unity of the people of Ghana should be energized for more than soccer. Imagine what Ghana can be as a nation, if the people were as united, excited, and proud enough to bring about much needed social change. I have seen way more male penises involuntarily than I ever want to see in my life. The whole peeing & defecating on the street at will, is really an eyesore, a health hazard & very primitive for such a great nation. Ghana- you have come so far, but you still have so far to go! The people are hopeful that the next leader will bring about much needed social change, but I believe that it is not the job of government to change the minds, wills & ways of the people –they have to set a higher standard for themselves, but government must aid them toward this path & realization.

I received a double treat as a Ghanaian & a New Yorker –As Ghana beat Nigeria & VA’s own Plaxico Burrus snatched the superbowl right out of New England’s hands & brought it home to the great NEW YORK GIANTS!! Tensions are high but the energy & spirits of Ghanaian are even higher. I am having a love affair with Ghana, the type that always makes you feel like no other thru the good & the bad times. We have had days of being entrenched in Ghana’s musical culture, interviewing greats like Osibisa & Blay Ambolley , perhaps the true father of hip-hop along with the future of Ghana’s music , Simmini, Obrafour, & many more. Ghana is has a plethora of people from all over the world visiting & residing in Ghana. We sat at a local spot called "The Office" & had a chat with Hungarian muscians as the blessed us with live acoustic guitar, local instruments & the sweet voice of Sena who is born & raised in Ghana of part Hungarian decent. These types of cultural mixes are an everyday story in Ghana & part of what makes it dynamic & fantastic.

Ghana is really at the heights of showcasing & recognizing its historical roots with the influx, of reggae, hip-hop, spoken, word, jazz, R & B, dance & film. We were on the set of an upcoming film entitled “Playing Games”, created by the same production company who got their fame from the “Beyonce “ films starring Nadia Buari. The demand is definitely there for these films, plus it’s giving Nigeria’s Nollywood a run for their money with superior quality of films & actors. Nigeria is right next door & is the 3rd largest hub of film outside of Hollywood & Bollywood. It seems like Gollywood is on the rise cranking out hundreds of films a month, unfortunately they are straight to video because Ghana’s theaters have been neglected. As a child growing up in Ghana it was such a treat to go to the theater where we would mostly watch Bollywood movies, now that Ghana is having its new renaissance in film and all of its art forms let’s hope the theaters will soon be open for the business of films again plus much more.
global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6862395673277449104.post-83752345930943245512008-02-04T13:31:00.000-08:002008-02-05T14:37:06.806-08:00GHANA-HOME OF BLACK STARS & BLACK QUEENS

GHANA
A PLACE WHERE THE NATIONAL TEAMS ARE NAMED BLACK STARS & BLACK QUEENS- WHO ARE WE TO NOT BE THE EPITOME OF ALL THAT REPRESENTS BY BEING JUST THAT!
global fusion productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01452498290500585124noreply@blogger.com0
